Learn about the 8 Principles of a Healthy Home as well as the Green & Healthy Homes Model that comprehensively integrates Healthy Homes practices, lead hazard control, and energy efficiency/weatherization upgrades. This comprehensive approach to healthy homes includes understanding the root causes and health & safety impacts of home-based environmental hazards to how to properly address such hazards.

As the Subject Matter Expert, Hector Moreno provides technical assistance and training on Healthy Homes and Building Energy Performance to home assessors, energy auditors, community health workers, and housing contractors working for State and private organizations supporting Federal and State programs on Lead Hazards Control, Asthma Triggers Control, Injury Prevention, and Energy Efficiency/Weatherization. Hector Moreno also supports the GHHI Quality Assurance & Quality Control program by providing quality control inspections for Housing Interventions as part of current and past Federally and State supported programs such as HUD’s Healthy Homes Demonstration and Production grants (Asthma Triggers control), HUD’s Healthy Homes Technical Studies (Asthma Triggers control, Injury prevention), and the Maryland DHCD’s Customer Investment Fund (CIF) Targeted and Enhanced Weatherization Program.

Before coming to GHHI, Mr. Moreno worked for 16 years at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) in Cincinnati, Ohio as a Microbiologist and Environmental Scientist. He later joined the Cincinnati Health Department in Ohio where he worked as an Environmental Health Sanitarian enforcing food safety codes and addressing indoor environmental factors affecting public health.

Mr. Moreno holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico. He is fluent in Spanish. He is a licensed Pest Control Operator in Maryland, a Mold Inspector, a Building Performance Institute (BPI) Certified Energy Auditor, and a BPI Quality Control Inspector.
