Professor Emeritus University of Alabama - Closed-Loop System Chapters of ASHRAE’s Updated “Geothermal Heating and Cooling: Design of Ground Source Heat Pumps” Blue Book
The closed-loop system chapters of the new ASHRAE text, Geothermal Heating and Cooling: Design of Ground Source Heat Pumps (http://www.techstreet.com/ashrae/products/1887017) will be covered in this four-hour workshop. Much of the first chapter will be presented during the ASHRAE Chapter lunch meeting (preceding the in-depth workshop). The workshop will cover:
• Equipment for Ground Source Applications
• Fundamentals of Vertical Ground Heat Exchanger Design
• Applied Ground Coupled Heat Pump System Design
• Surface Water Heat Pumps
• Piping and Pumps for Closed-Loop Ground Source Heat Pumps
• GSHP Performance and Installation Cost
This updated publication takes advantage of the many lessons learned since the original GSHP book was published (1997) when GSHPs were primarily residential applications. Information was gathered from ASHRAE and GSHP industry research & development projects, measured data from long-term installations and optimized installation practices used by high production GSHP contractors.
Seven of the original eight chapters and appendices were completely rewritten and additional information covering site characterization has been added including a new hydro-geological chapter. The final chapter was replaced and contains results of recent field studies, energy and demand characteristics and updated information to optimize GSHP system costs. Substantial effort was taken to develop tables, graphs and equations in both English (IP) and International (SI) units. Supplemental software for a variety of GSHP calculations also accompanies the text and will be demonstrated during the workshop.
Professional Development Certificates (4 hours) will be provided at the workshop and books will be available for purchase on site for a cost of $128.00.
